Livingston horse stable
The Livingstonsche Pferdestall in Frankfurt am Main , Ulmenstraße 20, at the corner of Kettenhofweg , is a listed neo-baroque building from the end of the 19th century.
history
It was built in the middle of the Westend residential area according to a design by the architect Carl Ludwig Schmidt by the Frankfurt businessman Marks John Livingston , who had returned from America and who lived with his family not far away in their villa at Bockenheimer Landstrasse 33.
After 1945 the building housed a cabaret and a warehouse belonging to Schleussner Fotowerke KG. In 1971 the property group Perel and co-owners acquired the house and only through the use of citizens' initiatives could the building be saved from final disintegration. Today (as of 2019) it serves as a restaurant . The Frankfurt Press Club has event rooms upstairs .
nature
The complex with a double-gate arcade , a two-storey horse stable and carriage shed , was built in the style of the baroque feudal architecture of the 18th century. The roof silhouette with a horse bust, ridge lattice, sculptural decoration and clock tower is architecturally and structurally worth mentioning. An atlas figure adorns the corner of Ulmenstrasse / Kettenhofweg. At that time carriages were also stored on the upper floor due to lack of space. A specially constructed elevator was used to transport the car.
