Liviu Dănceanu
Liviu Dănceanu (born July 19, 1954 in Roman ; † October 26, 2017 ) was a Romanian composer.
Dănceanu studied composition with Ștefan Niculescu at the University of Bucharest and was then a student of Iannis Xenakis , Włodzimierz Kotoński and Paul Patterson . From 1990 he taught at the University of Bucharest.
He was the founder (1985) and musical director of the contemporary music ensemble Archaeus and artistic director of the Zilele muzicii contemporane festival in Bacau . From 1991 to 1994 he was President of the Romanian Section of the International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM). For his compositions he was a. a. awarded the George Enescu Prize of the Academia Română (1989), the Prize of Music Criticism (1991) and the Prize of the Romanian Composers Union (1988, 1990 and 1994). In 1994 he received an honorable mention at the Antidogma Musica composition competition in Turin .
He composed more than 100 symphonic, chamber music and vocal works and published studies, essays and reviews in musical journals.
