Lizum (emphasized on -zum , from Graubünden Romanesque lozza : "mud, kotlache", from Latin lutum : "excrement") means Alm as part of an Alm name. The meaning results from the originally muddy nature of this pasture area . The alpine name Kotalm used in Tyrolean German is comparable with this .
