history

Between the First and Second World Wars, there was a coal mine in Lješljani. At that time the village had several hundred inhabitants, in 1991 there were 59.

During the Second World War, several hundred civilians and resistance fighters from all over the region (known as partisans and communists) were rounded up and shot by fascist fighters (mostly members of the then Croatian Ustaša movement) and SS soldiers.

The mine was closed after the Second World War and a large part of the population moved away.

Since the end of the Bosnian War in 1995, the place belongs to the Republika Srpska , one of the two entities of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In the 1970s thermal springs were discovered in Lješljani, later a health-promoting effect was confirmed by various institutes in Zagreb and Banja Luka . Today there is an outdoor swimming pool with thermal water called Slatina . The construction of a spa hotel and other thermal baths is being planned.
