The building was designed by the architect Richard Rogers and erected between 1978 and 1986. Like the Center Pompidou , which Rogers had previously designed together with Renzo Piano , this building was also innovative because supply lines, stairs and lifts were visibly laid to the outside. The twelve glass lifts were the first of their kind in the UK.

“Richard Rogers pursued this approach of demonstratively turned outward technology in his Lloyd's Building also in high-rise construction. This building, unconventional in every respect, came astonishingly close to the visions of the futurists. "

The complex consists of three main towers and three supply towers around a central rectangular square. On the 11th floor is the Committee Room , an 18th century dining room that was furnished by Robert Adam in 1763 on behalf of William Petty and which was moved piece by piece from the former Lloyd's building across the street.

The Lloyd's Building is around 76 meters high and has 14 floors. The special thing about the building is that each floor can be changed quickly by installing or removing partition walls.

Owner of the building

The owner kept changing over time, while the tenant always remained the same. Lloyd's lease runs until 2031.
