Loïc Leferme

Loïc Leferme (born  August 28, 1970 in Malo-les-Bains , Département Nord , †  April 11, 2007 in Villefranche-sur-Mer ) was a French freediver . Until October 2, 2005 he held the world record in the "No Limit" discipline.

Leferme set its first world record in 1999 at a depth of 137 meters. The next followed on October 20, 2002 at a depth of 162 meters. On October 30, 2004, he broke his own record with a diving depth of 171 meters. On October 2nd, 2005, this record was broken by the Austrian freediver Herbert Nitsch , who reached 183 meters.

Leferme, who comes from a family of enthusiastic water sports enthusiasts, had a fatal accident on April 11, 2007 during training in Villefranche-sur-Mer. According to the press, it reached a depth of 171 meters while preparing for a new world record. However, complications arose on the ascent after a guide line got tangled. Leferme was recovered lifeless from a depth of 20 meters and died of heart failure on site .
