Locator Island (from English locator 'pointer, position sensor ' ) is an island in the Wilhelm Archipelago off the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is the highest and most westerly of the Roca Islands and is 300 m north of the largest (as yet unnamed) island in this group.
The Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey mapped them using aerial photographs from Hunting Aerosurveys Ltd. from the years between 1956 and 1957 as well as aerial photographs taken in March 1958 during helicopter flights by HMS Protector . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it so in 1959 because it was a useful landmark for navigating the French Passage .
