Lockjaw was a German band with English-language songs of the post-hardcore / indie rock genre , which was founded in Solingen in 1996 . The five band members Tobias Clauberg (vocals), Philipp Schlemper (guitar), Felix Knappertsbusch (guitar; until 2007), Henning Stein (bass; until 2001), Frederik Groborsch (bass; since 2001) and Marius Götze (drums) performed their own style right from the start, which is positively rated by the international music press. In 2004 they were the opening act for the band Helmet on their Germany tour. For the eleven years of existence of the band, the Solingen-based third album was released in early 2007, entitled Lockjaw . After a short tour to the new album and a subsequent break, the musicians decided to break up the band in 2008 in order to be able to focus fully on studies, work and family.

The band's name does not refer to the nickname of American tenor saxophonist Eddie Lockjaw Davis . Marius Götze: "Our band name Lockjaw came about when we were around 15/16 years old (1995). It was a suggestion from our guitarist Felix, who, when leafing through various dictionaries, found the name to be melodious and appropriate. Without further ado, we got the name Lockjaw accepted. It wasn't until later, also through the Internet, that we found out more about musicians with similar or identical names. Of course we got to know Eddie Davis through this, as well as the Marvel comic dog and a song by Sir Mix-a-Lot . We have The name was always used with pleasure, even after more than ten years, because it is short and memorable. In terms of its meaning, a lot could be interpreted into it. Whether we couldn't keep our "mouth" or had to shout the truth loudly, here it was many approaches. "
