Lockyer is an impact crater to the south of the lunar front , west of the great Janssen crater and northeast of Pitiscus . The crater is only slightly eroded, the crater floor is flat.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the British astrophysicist Joseph Norman Lockyer .
