Lodore Falls

The Lodore Falls are a waterfall in the Lake District , Cumbria , England . The Watendlath Beck falls around 30 m deep in the Lodore Falls before it flows into the Derwent Water Lake shortly afterwards .

The waterfall is often only very small after dry periods, but raging after heavy rainfall.

The poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge called the Lodore Falls the best in the Lake District and compared it to the fall of the fallen angels from heaven, as he saw him portrayed as a sublime image by John Milton in Paradise Lost .

The Lake Poets Robert Southey has a poem in 1820 ( The Catarct of Lodore, also known as How does the water come down at Lodore? ) Wrote about the waterfall.
