Lohmühle Mönchengladbach

The Lohmühle Mönchengladbach is in Mönchengladbach ( North Rhine-Westphalia ), Bettrather Straße 14 b.

The Lohmühle was built before 1800. It was entered under no. B 062 on December 15, 1987 in the monuments list of the city of Mönchengladbach .

architecture

Bettrather Strasse is north of the old town center. The Lohmühlenturm, a former “ Erdholländer ” in brick with a round floor plan, can already be recognized on old engravings from Mönchengladbach from before 1800. The five-storey high mill tower is now only preserved as a truncated cone, on which a conical roof covered with German slate was placed instead of the rotating cap . In addition to the pre-built main entrance with a basket arch gate , a brick building has been erected to the right and left, to which a covered open space has been added to the side by extending the roof. The tower is irregularly provided with windows at the rear, floor-to-ceiling glass blocks .

Despite massive interventions in the old building structure, the mill is worth protecting as an important document of historical production facilities, given its rarity and age.
