action

After his return to Earth, Tichy goes on vacation to Switzerland, where he learns about an agency (the Ministry of Extra Terrestrial Affairs) that is dedicated to extraterrestrial diplomacy and that tries to simulate the history of distant peoples and planets in a giant computer.

In his star diaries , Tichy reported on his trip to Entia, but he did not land on Entia itself, but only on an entertainment satellite orbiting Entia, as he learned during a visit to the MfAA. Initially, Tichy carried out meticulous studies on Entia in Switzerland, with the intention of later traveling to Entia himself.

During the trip to the Entia, Ijon Tichy conversed with the personality copies of Karl Popper , Paul Feyerabend , Bertrand Russell and, most recently, William Shakespeare .

In the last part of the novel, Tichy arrives in Entia after a long space flight and visits the two bird-born tribes resident there, the Kurdish and the Losannians. The Kurdish people live in giant lizards, the so-called Stadtschreitwerke. The Losannians have equipped their environment with intelligent nanobots, the grips, which prevent violence and suffering.
