Rajni Kothari

Rajni Kothari ( 1928 - January 19, 2015 in New Delhi ) was an Indian political scientist and social scientist. He founded Lokayan , a meeting and training center for social change in India, which received the 1985 Right Livelihood Award (Alternative Nobel Prize).

Life

Rajni Kothari was a lecturer at the University of Baroda . Since 1961 he has published articles on politics and society in India. In 1963 he founded the Center for the Study of Developing Societies in Delhi , which published numerous sociological studies on society in India over the next two decades. In 1980 he founded Lokayan - Dialogue of the People as a forum for academics and political activists to exchange ideas about changes in Indian society. In 1985 this got the Right Livelihood Award.

Rajni Kothari has published several books and many articles on politics in India, the Congress Party and other social issues.
