The Parque Regional Lomas de Arena is a protected landscape area in the Santa Cruz department in the lowlands of the South American Andean state Bolivia .
founding
The landscape protection area Lomas de Arena ( German : sand hill chain ) was founded on September 7, 1990 by Decreto Supremo Nº 22911.
location and size
Lomas de Arena is a 133 km² area of shifting dunes and lakes about twelve kilometers south of Santa Cruz and one of the most important tourist destinations in the department. The chains of dunes tower up to 50 meters and are interrupted by individual smaller groundwater lakes.
The Choré-Choré brook flows across the grounds of the park and flows southeast of the park into the Rio Pantano and from there into the Río Grande . Since there is an oil refinery on the upper reaches of the Choré brook, oil spills have already occurred in the park's short history, for example when about 250,000 liters of crude oil leaked from an illegal crude oil store on July 23, 2002.
