The Lombok Strait is a strait between the Indonesian islands of Bali and Lombok . It connects the Indian Ocean with the Bali Sea .
It is one of the most important sea trade routes for East Asia and internationally .
The so-called Wallace Line runs through the 60 km long strait . There are indications that Homo erectus used rafts to cross the waterway, which is only 19 km wide in the south and 40 km in the north, 800,000 years ago .
