Londa is a Toraja village in Toraja Utara , Indonesia about 7 km south of Rantepao .
The village is one of the main tourist attractions in Toraja Utara because of the rock tombs . According to legend, Londa is the burial place of Tangdilinoq , the Toraja leader under whom the Toraja had to retreat from Enrekang to the highlands. Two types of burial can be seen. The nobles are buried in chambers carved into the limestone. The higher the status of the deceased, the higher his chamber, which can be up to 50 meters high. The chambers of the nobles are accompanied by Tau-Tau ancestral figures. The coffins of the common people, however, are buried in caves and crevices at the foot of the rock face. The two main caves, in which coffins and bones lie, are connected by a narrow passage. Londa is one of ten traditional Toraja settlements put on the "Tentative List" by the Indonesian Ministry of Culture for nominations by UNESCO .
