North Toraja ( Toraja Utara ) is a government district ( Kabupaten ) on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi that was newly formed in 2008 by outsourcing from the Tana Toraja district . The district is part of the Sulawesi Selatan Province . 215,400 inhabitants live here (2010).

Attractions
The Indonesian Ministry of Culture placed the following traditional Toraja settlements on the "Tentative List" for nominations by UNESCO :
- Londa : rock burial site with two burial methods
- Kete Kesu : village with tongkonans (in a museum) and rice granaries, burial place, space for ritual ceremonies ( rante )
- Pallawa: northeast of Rantepao, village with 11 Tongkonans and 15 rice granaries and space for ritual ceremonies
- Pala 'Toke': 5 km southeast of Rantepao, burial place with 2 Tongkonans and 16 rice granaries and space for ritual ceremonies with menhirs
- Buntu Pune (living space with 2 tongkonans (1 of which, according to legend, was built by Pong Marambaq) and 6 rice granaries) and Rante Karasik (place for ritual ceremonies and menhirs), 1 km south of Rantepao
- Nanggala: east of Rantepao, village with 2 Tongkonans and 16 rice granaries
- Kande Api: Village with 4 Tongkonans and 11 rice granaries
- Bori Parinding: (5 km north of Rantepao) burial place and place for ritual ceremonies with more than 100 menhirs in Bori, 1 km south of Bori in Parinding Tongkonans

The official website of the Tana Toraja district reported the following figures in 2006 (before the spin-off of Toraja Utara, figures for both districts together): Protestants : 65.15%, Catholics : 16.97%, Islam : 5.99% and Toraja - " Hindu " (Aluk To Dolo): 5.99%.
