history

The name goes back to the Kingdom of Luwu (also Luwuq or Wareq ), the oldest kingdom in Sulawesi Selatan. The Dutch governor Braam Morris von Makassar dated the heyday of the empire to the tenth to fourteenth centuries in 1889. La Galigo , an epic poem in an archaic form of the Buginese language , probably served as its source . The Bugireich Luwu was occupied by the Dutch in 1905.
