Takalar is a government district ( Kabupaten ) in the province of South Sulawesi , Indonesia . Takalar has an area of 566.51 km² and a population of about 250,000 people. The capital is Pattallassang .
From July 1, 1922 to 1930 there was a rail connection to Makassar.
Takalar was previously a sub-municipality of the greater autonomous region of Makassar together with the other sub-municipalities Makassar , Gowa , Maros , Jeneponto and Pangkajene . From February 10, 1960, Takalar became an independent Kabupaten in the South Sulawesi Province.
