Londonbeat
Londonbeat is a British - American pop group that enjoyed worldwide success between late 1988 and autumn 1992.
Band history
The Rhythm & Blues band consisted of the American singers Jimmy Helms, George Chandler and Jimmy Chambers (born January 20, 1946, from Trinidad & Tobago) as well as the producer and multi-instrumentalist Willy M. (actually William Henshall).
Londonbeat was particularly noticeable for its clear voices, especially from Jimmy Helms, who himself landed a top 10 hit in Great Britain in the early 1970s with Gonna Make You an Offer You Can't Refuse . The group emerged in 1987 from the vocal trio Beatjockeys, who sang in the background with Paul Young , among others . In 1988 Londonbeat was the first band to get a record deal with Dave Stewart's new music label Anxious.
The final breakthrough came in the fall of 1990 I've Been Thinking About You (number 1 hit in 27 countries). The group achieved further chart placements with A Better Love , No Woman, No Cry and You Bring on the Sun, among others . Most notably, I've Been Thinking About You was a global success and topped the US dance charts.
After 1992 the old successes could no longer be achieved. Even a comeback in autumn 1994 did not bring great success. After the last single, released in May 1995, nothing more was heard from the band.
In the autumn of 2003, Londonbeat tried a comeback with a partly new line-up (Jimmy Helms, Jimmy Chambers and the new Myles Kayne and Marc Goldschmitz) and released a new album in 2003 and 2004. Marc Goldschmitz left the band in 2005. He now lives in Berlin, where he plays in the indie rock band Leash, among others.
Londonbeat persists and still performs worldwide.
