The Long Point is a headland on the north coast of South Georgia . The cape marks the northwest limit of the entrance to Godthul Bay and the eastern limit of Cobblers Cove .
Participants in an expedition led by the Norwegian Harald Horntvedt (1879-1946) mapped Long Point in 1928. It was re-mapped a year later by scientists from the British Discovery Investigations . They named him after the British politician Walter Long, 1st Viscount Long (1854-1924), from 1919 to 1921 First Lord of the Admiralty .
