Godthul ( Norwegian for good cauldron ) is a 1.5 km deep bay on the north coast of South Georgia . It is there between Cape George and Long Point .
The name of the bay, the name of which probably goes back to Norwegian seal hunters and whalers, has been established since the period between 1905 and 1912.
The Norwegian company Bryde & Dahls Hvalfangerselskab operated a floating whale processing factory in the bay from 1908 to 1917 and from 1922 to 1929 . Only a building and a few storage tanks were built as a base on land.
