Lord Bellenden

Lord Bellenden , of Broughton , was a hereditary British title ( Lordship of Parliament ) in the Peerage of Scotland .

Award and history of the title

The title was given on June 10, 1661 by King Charles II to the Treasurer-depute of Scotland William Bellenden , Lord of the Broughton in Midlothian . Before the 1st Lord died unmarried and childless on September 3, 1671, he had decreed on April 14, 1671 that his title and property should be given to his great-great-nephew John Ker , a grandson of his maternal cousin, and the youngest son of William Ker, 2. Earl of Roxburghe should fall. This then changed his family name to Bellenden . The inheritance regulation was confirmed on December 12, 1673 by Royal Charter , so that this succeeded him as 2nd Lord. His grandson, William Bellenden, 7th Lord Bellenden , inherited the title 4th Duke of Roxburghe along with other subordinate titles when his third degree nephew John Ker, 3rd Duke of Roxburghe died , and added his family name to Bellenden-Ker . When the 4th Duke died childless on October 22, 1805, the title of lord was extinguished, while the title of duket fell to his distant relative, Sir James Innes, 6th Baronet .
