Lottery day

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lost days (including lurt days , red days , council days , council nights ) are certain days in the farming year that , according to old popular belief , were significant for the weather in the coming weeks and thus for the performance of various agricultural work, such as the beginning of the sowing or the end of the harvest . The designation and the date of such lost days are based on the saints calendar of the church year . In the word lost day , the meaning of “lot” in the sense of “skill” was retained.

The festival of Candlemas on February 2nd and Kathedra Petri on February 22nd, the so-called ice saints in mid-May, the feast of St. Medardus on June 8th, St. John's Day on June 24th, and the Dormouse on July 7th are included as lost days (instead of June 27th), Michaelmas Day on September 29th, Hubertus Day on November 3rd and Christmas Day . Some lost days were also thing days for servants and farm workers.
