Plumb fork for measuring table

The soldering fork , also known as soldering pliers (soldering pliers, soldering fork), is an aid for positioning a measuring table .

The stage is in principle a plate for receiving a drawing sheet, even an already existing card , mounted on a tripod provided with a spirit level leveled can be.

In order to be able to transfer the plumb point (reference point for measurements and work on the measuring table) below the measuring table to the top and thus also to the drawing sheet / map, a fork-shaped device is used that is pushed sideways over the plate of the measuring table and with a Mark transfers the plumb point.

The plumb point is marked on the drawing sheet (usually with a pin prick), an existing map is moved so that a location on the map coincides with the plumb point in the area.

The measuring table and the instruments and aids used with it belong to the "tools" of classical geodesy and have now been replaced by more modern processes.
