Lothar Krauss

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lothar Krauss (born February 29, 1956 in Frankfurt am Main ) was chairman of the Transnet railway union from May 16, 2008 to November 24, 2008 . He was criticized for agreeing to bonus payments to rail managers and resigned after six months in office.

He replaced Norbert Hansen , who had been appointed Labor Director of DB Holding AG by the DB Supervisory Board. Krauss was also deputy chairman of the supervisory board of Deutsche Bahn AG , of which he was a member from July 20, 1999.

From 1973 to 1976 Krauss was trained as a power plant electronics technician at the Deutsche Bundesbahn in Frankfurt. In 1974 Krauss became involved in the union for the first time as a youth representative. In 1983 he became managing director and first authorized representative of the Transnet predecessor GdED (Union of Railway Workers in Germany) in the Darmstadt local authority and thus a full-time trade unionist. In 1993 he became district manager of the GdED district of Frankfurt / Main, and in 1996 a member of the executive board. Krauss was deputy chairman of GdED / Transnet from 1999 to May 2008 and in this office was responsible for the areas of co-determination and finances and was elected chairman as Hansen's successor without opposing candidates. In addition to his trade union activity, Krauss is also chairman of the supervisory board of Sparda-Bank Baden-Württemberg and chairman of the administrative board of Deutsche Beamten Versicherung. Lothar Krauss is a member of the SPD .

resignation

His resignation as Transnet boss in November 2008 was, according to his own account, a reaction to fierce criticism within the union and the lost trust of the members after his predecessor Norbert Hansen switched to rail management and thus to the employer camp. Krauss had defended Hansen's move. The political dispute over the company's IPO was also one of the reasons for the withdrawal.
