Lothar Steinbach

Lothar Steinbach (* 1937 in Mannheim ) is a German historian and history educator .

Steinbach studied history, English and philosophy at the Free University of Berlin, among others. After a short time as a teacher, he was appointed professor of history and didactics at the Heidelberg University of Education in 1973 . He taught there until 2001; today he lives in Potsdam.

His advocacy of more social history in history lessons was significant in terms of history . He also dealt with the didactic possibilities of oral history . He was one of the first jurors in the Federal President's history competition .
