biography

Christian Louboutin

Christian Louboutin's interest in women's shoes was aroused as a child when he saw a sign showing a crossed-out stiletto heel in the Musée des Arts Africains et Océaniens in Paris . It should keep the female visitors from ruining the parquet with their heels. The shape of the heel fascinated him and he kept tracing it.

At first he tried to bring his designs and drawings to the dancers of the Parisian variety shows and parties and to sell them shoes. But since that did not work, mainly for financial reasons, he started an apprenticeship with Charles Jourdan , Maud Frizon, Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent .

His real career then began with his own shop near the Place des Victoires in Paris, which quickly became very famous because on the one hand celebrities shop there and on the other hand he offered all customers free coffee. The final breakthrough came when the US company Neiman Marcus added his shoes to their program.

Shoe with characteristic red sole

The special feature of his shoes - usually equipped with a very high heel - is a red sole. This sole makes the shoes very easy to recognize as Louboutins . There is also a bridal collection with a more inconspicuous, blue sole. The design for a shoe is protected by US design patent D707926 S, which was published on July 1, 2014. Louboutin is taking legal action in Germany against companies that also offer shoes with red soles.

Controversy

In 2017, the Mexican TV channel Imagen Television found out that the designer bought bags of indigenous handicrafts for 238 Mexican pesos (the equivalent of 10.67 euros ) and then sold them for 28,000 pesos (1254.76 euros).
