Lougourougoumbou is a municipality in the Mopti region , Bandiagara County in Mali . The number of residents was estimated at 600 to 700 in 2010. The village is 17 kilometers northeast of Bandiagara .
The current mayor, or Chef de Village , of Lougourougoumbou is Nindiou Kassougné, who has held office since 1982.
economy
The main source of income for the residents is the sale of specially prepared onions. The onions are ground in a mortar and packed into balls with a diameter of 10 to 20 centimeters. These balls are then dried in the sun and sold in markets in the surrounding villages, from where they are also exported to all of Mali. Production is very much dependent on the local weather.
Support education
The Children's Fund for Developing Countries planned and built a school for the village in 1995. The necessary money (50,000 DM) was raised by the Lessing-Gymnasium in Cologne through various donation campaigns between 1994 and 1996. Another building was built in 1997, again supported by the Lessing-Gymnasium.
In order to pay the teachers and obtain teaching materials, the Lessing-Gymnasium Cologne organizes the “Mega Mali Madness” every year. Youth bands play at this event; the entrance fees go directly to the partner school in Mali.
The first “Mali Action Day” took place in 2015 to raise money for a secondary school to complement the existing school.
