Louis-Gabriel Bellon

Louis-Gabriel Bellon (born October 20, 1819 in Lille , † May 20, 1899 ) was a French collector of antiquities.

He undertook excavations in the Gallo-Roman and Merovingian cemeteries of Saint-Nicolas-les-Arras in the 1850s . In particular, he was an avid collector of antiquities and brought together one of the largest collections of Tanagra figures . After his death, his son Paul (1844–1928) set up a museum in Saint-Nicolas-les-Arras, which was destroyed in the First World War and a large part of the collection was destroyed. The rest of his collection was auctioned in Vannes in 2009 , 12 pieces were acquired by the Louvre .
