Louis Abelly

Louis Abelly (* 1602 ; † October 4, 1691 in Paris ) was Bishop of Rodez in southern France, Catholic moral theologian, friend and biographer of Vincent de Paul . He wrote the moderate semipelagian dogmatic textbook "Medulla theologica". That is why the Jansenists gave it the nickname "le moelleux". Abely was a great defender of the cult of Mary and wrote about its ecclesiastical tradition. He was one of the opponents of the Jansenists and died at the age of 88 in the St. Lazarus Monastery in Paris, founded by Vincent von Paul.
