Louis Thomas Jerome Auzoux (born April 7, 1797 in Saint-Aubin d'Ecrosville , † March 7, 1880 ) was a French scientific model maker and anatomist , who was best known for his anatomical models made of paper mache .

Auzoux studied medicine from 1816 to 1822, first under Guillaume Dupuy at the Hôtel-Dieu de Paris , and later under Rene-Alexis Baffos at the children's hospital. In the early 1820s, Auzoux began producing anatomical models, the first of which he presented at the newly founded Académie nationale de Médecine in 1822 . The models also proved to be a commercial success and Auzoux added zoological and botanical models to its catalog.

Auzoux's paper mache models had numerous advantages over conventional scientific models made of wax , wood , plaster or ivory , for example they could be dismantled, were insensitive to temperature and, in particular, were inexpensive to produce. In 1828 Auxoux opened a factory in Saint-Aubin d'Ecrosville, which exported paper models to over 30 countries, mainly for university teaching collections.

The Museum Boerhaave in Leiden in the Netherlands shows since 2008, 72 made of Auzoux models of the human body, after they were overhauled and repaired.
