Louis Charles Auguste Steinheil (born July 26, 1814 in Strasbourg , † May 16, 1885 in Paris ) was a French painter .

Steinheil studied at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris before exhibiting for the first time at the Salon de 1836 in Paris. He worked with Viollet-le-Duc and participated in the restoration of the Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral and the windows of the Sainte-Chapelle in the 1940s and 50s. The east window in the choir apex chapel of St. Corentin's Cathedral in Quimper bears its signature: "1868 Paris Peintre Steinheil". He also worked as a fresco painter.
