Louis Chauvin (born March 13, 1881 in St. Louis , Missouri , † March 26, 1908 in Chicago , Illinois ) was an American ragtime pianist and composer.

His Mexican father was of Hispanic Indian descent and his mother was African American. He was considered one of the most talented and best ragtime pianists and composers in St. Louis at the turn of the century and was part of the ragtime community that met regularly in Tom Turpin's Bar. He died of syphilis before his career really started.

Of his few published works , the Rag Heliotrope Bouquet , composed with Scott Joplin , is known to this day . The first two “strains” are by Chauvin and prove that he was on a par with Joplin, musically and pianistically.

Louis Chauvin died on March 26, 1908 of complications from syphilis .
