from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Louis Deschamps (born May 25, 1846 in Montélimar , Département Drôme ; † August 8, 1902 there ) was a French painter.

Live and act

Deschamps received his first artistic lessons in a drawing school in his hometown. He came to Paris around 1865 and was a student at the École des Beaux-Arts where Alexandre Cabanel was his teacher.

With his support, Deschamps was able to take part in the major annual exhibition of the Salon de Paris for the first time in 1872 . Until 1889 he was then regularly represented as an exhibitor with similar success. Since the tastes of the public had changed, Deschamps refused the salon and from 1890 until the end of his life only exhibited in exhibitions of the Société nationale des beaux-arts .

Louis Deschamps died in his hometown in 1902 at the age of 55, where he found his final resting place.

The rue Louis Deschamps in Montélimar was named in his honor.
