Louis Francis Solano
Louis Francis Solano (born March 29, 1904 in Naples , † August 2, 1992 in Quincy (Massachusetts) ) was an American Romanist of Italian origin.
life and work
Solano came to the United States when he was two. He received his doctorate from Charles Hall Grandgent at Harvard University in 1931 with the thesis The Phonology of Neapolitan (unpublished) and from then on taught there, from 1940 as Associate Professor, from 1969 as Full Professor. After his retirement in 1970, he taught at Loyola University Maryland, Suffolk University , and the Cambridge Center for Adult Education.
Solano worked mainly through the oral university teaching and his broad knowledge of languages. He has published very little.
