Louis Frommann

Franz Anton Ludwig Frommann (Louis) (born June 26, 1835 in Coburg , † approx. 1880 in Greytown ) was a merchant and imperial German consul in Central America .

Life

Louis Frommann was the fourth child of master stone mason Johann Georg Frommann (1803–1846) and Margaretha Eichhorn (1812–1887) and brother of Coburg master builder Tobias Frommann . He went to the Casimirianum high school in Coburg and emigrated to North America with his brother at the age of 19 . He became a merchant, later settled in Bluefields and started a company.

After his application in 1869 he was appointed Federal Consul in Greytown ( San Juan del Norte ( Nicaragua )) by the King of Prussia from 1870 and had the authorization to " carry out civil marriages of Germans and to certify the births, marriages and deaths of Germans ". In 1872 he also became consul of the German Empire .

He was married and had five children.

Trivia

In 1876 he registered a newly built iron screw steamship named Coburg with the home port of Bremen in New York as the owner and was allowed to sail “in all seas” under the German flag .
