Louis Germain Bailly (born June 23, 1787 in Paris , † after 1846) was a French glass painter who restored or renewed leaded glass windows in Parisian churches .

Louis Bailly was the son of the master painter Jean François Bailly. Louis married Sophie Poitier on August 14, 1813 and settled at number 17, Rue Jean-de-l'Épine in the 12th arrondissement of Paris. He learned the painting trade from his father.

Life

On May 26, 1826, Bailly bought the stained glass workshop from Louis Huin, who had inherited it from his father Louis Huin (1756-1821), who died in 1821 . The workshop was located at 18, Rue Sainte-Avoye in Paris ( 3rd arrondissement ).

Between 1826 and 1832 Bailly received several commissions in the church of St-Germain-l'Auxerrois , where he restored leaded glass windows and carried out painting work. He received further commissions in other churches in Paris between 1828 and 1846 from the city of Paris, which has owned most of the parish churches in Paris since the French Revolution and is responsible for maintenance.

The glass painter Prosper Lafaye , who was busy with many orders, worked with Bailly in 1845. The last known record is that in 1846 Louis Germain Bailly was commissioned to make the windows at the entrance to the church of St-Germain-des-Prés .
