Louis Hersent (born March 10, 1777 in Paris ; † October 2, 1860 there ) was a French lithographer , portrait and history painter .

Life

Hersent was a student of Jean-Baptiste Regnault . Due to illness, he interrupted his studies in 1798 and then worked as a lithographer. In 1803 he became a drawing teacher at the Saint-Cyr military school and later enjoyed success as a history and portrait painter. In 1822 he was appointed a member of the Institut de France . He opened a private studio in which he trained numerous students. In 1825 he was appointed professor at the École des beaux-arts .
