Louis Isidore Duperrey
Louis Isidore Duperrey (born October 22, 1786 in Paris ; † August 25, 1865 there ) was a French explorer , navigator and cartographer .
Duperrey entered the French naval service in 1802 and initially served as a marine hydrologist under Captain Louis de Freycinet on his voyages of discovery in the South Seas with the ship Uranie (1817-1820).
Later he himself commanded the ship La Coquille on his own exploratory trips in the South Pacific (1822-1825).
In 1842 he was elected to the Académie des Sciences in Paris and in 1861 to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
