Louis Mourin

Louis Mourin (born July 5, 1913 in Brussels , † 2005 ibid) was a Belgian Romance scholar and linguist.

life and work

Mourin first taught in the lower high school system as Régent . He then studied at the University of Ghent (licentiate in 1943, doctorate in 1945 with a thesis on Jean Gerson ), as well as at the Sorbonne . In 1952 he completed his habilitation with another paper on Gerson, but then turned (as an assistant in Ghent) to modern linguistics and did research primarily on morphology in the Romanian context (with special attention to Romanian, Portuguese, Rhaeto-Romanic and Sardinian). From 1963 he was a professor at his university, from 1965 until his retirement in 1983 he was full professor of Romance philology. He also taught at times at the Université Libre de Bruxelles .
