Louis Nail

Louis Léon Jules Nail (born September 27, 1864 in Château-Gontier , † October 9, 1920 in Paris ) was a French lawyer and politician of the Third Republic . He was Minister of Justice from 1917 to 1920 .

Life

Nail worked professionally as a lawyer in Lorient and was later president of the local bar association. He had been a member of the General Council in the Morbihan department since 1898 , which he chaired from 1913 until his death. From 1904 to 1912 he was mayor of Lorient. In 1910 he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies , to which he belonged until his death.

During the First World War , Nail was a member of a committee that dealt with the purchase of ships abroad. From October 29, 1915 to July 4, 1917 he held the position of Undersecretary of State of the Navy and Merchant Navy in the governments led by Aristide Briand and Alexandre Ribot . From November 16, 1917 to January 20, 1920 he served as Minister of Justice in the government led by Georges Clemenceau .
