Louis Tiercelin

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Louis Tiercelin (* 1849 in Rennes , † June 2, 1915 in Paramé ) was a French poet and playwright.

Tiercelin made his debut in 1867 and 1868 with the plays L'Occasion fait le larron and L'Habit ne fait pas le moine , both of which were performed in Rennes. His first volume of poetry, Les Asphodèles, reflected the Catholic environment in his homeland in Brittany. He published Le Parnasse Breton contemporain , founded the magazine L'Hermine in 1889 , which he directed until 1912 and thus became an important patron of Breton literature and poetry. His piece Le Sacrement de Judas , which was performed in London by Forbes Robertson and in the USA by Kyrle Bellew , had international success .
