Louis Virgil Hamman (born December 21, 1877 , † April 28, 1946 ) was an American internist and, alongside Arnold Rice Rich, one of the namesake of the Hamman-Rich syndrome (today's name Acute Interstitial Pneumonia ). In addition, the Hamman's sign , which occurs during spontaneous mediastinal emphysema, was named after him.
