Arnold Rice Rich
Arnold Rice Rich (born March 28, 1893 in Birmingham , Alabama , † April 17, 1968 in Baltimore , Maryland ) was an American pathologist . In addition to Louis Virgil Hamman , he was the namesake of the Hamman-Rich Syndrome (today's name Acute Interstitial Pneumonia ).
Rich studied biology at the University of Virginia. In 1915 he went to the Johns Hopkins Medical School and earned the degree of MD in 1919 at the suggestion of surgeon William Stewart Halsted , he turned to pathology. With the exception of a sabbatical with the Viennese internist Hans Eppinger , he spent his entire career at the Pathological Institute of Johns Hopkins University . Arnold Rice Rich was appointed professor of pathology in 1944. In 1947 he took over the management of pathology at Johns Hopkins Hospital .
