Louis François Michel Raymond Wolowski (actually Ludwik Franciszek Michał Reymond Wołowski ; born August 31, 1810 in Warsaw , † August 15, 1876 in Gisors ) was a French economist of Polish origin.

Life

Wolowski was the son of the former President of the Polish Reichstag, Franciszek Wołowski. Wolowski came to France at the age of thirteen and completed school and studies there from 1823 to 1827.

When the November uprisings against Russian rule broke out in his hometown at the end of 1830 , Wolowski immediately joined. He served with the rank of captain in the Polish general staff and later advanced to the position of vice-requester of the Polish government. Towards the end of the War of Independence, Wolowski represented his country as the secretary of the embassy in Paris , where he stayed after the end of the uprising and received French citizenship in 1843.

Wolowski founded the magazine Revue de législation et de jurisprudence as early as 1833 and in 1839 was entrusted with a teaching position at the “Conservatory of Arts and Crafts” as a professor for law . In 1848 Wolowski was elected to the management of this school.

In 1856 Wolowski published his translation of Wilhelm Roscher's System of Economics .

From 1848 to 1851 Wolowski was a member of the Constituent Assembly, then the Legislative Assembly, where he belonged to the moderately democratic party. In 1855 he was accepted as a member of the Academy of Moral and Political Sciences , and from 1871 Wolowski represented the moderate republicans in the National Assembly as a member of the Left Center . There he defended the free trade system and died, just elected senator , on August 15, 1876 in Gisors at the age of almost 66 years.
