Louis d'Armagnac
Ludwig von Armagnac ( Louis d'Armagnac ; * 1472 ; † April 28, 1503 near Cerignola ) was a French nobleman from the House of Armagnac, Count of Guise since 1481 and Count of Pardiac and Duke of Nemours since 1500.
Life
He was born the third son of Jacques d'Armagnac and Louise d'Anjou, his siblings were his older brothers Jacques and Jean and the younger sisters Marguerite, Catherine and Charlotte. In 1491 he succeeded his uncle Charles V as Count of Guise . He took part in the first Italian war under Charles VIII . In 1500 he succeeded his brother Jean as Duke of Nemours and Count of Pardiac . Even under Louis XII. he fought in Italy and in 1501 became the first viceroy of Naples during the brief French rule there. The alliance between France and Spain soon broke up. On April 21, 1503, the French lost a battle at Seminara. A week later he led the French cavalry in the battle of Cerignola in southern Italy, which was devastating for the French side , and was killed by Spanish arquebuses. Ludwig had no legitimate descendants; his sister Marguerite inherited his title.
