Louise Gore

Beatrice Louise Gore (born March 6, 1925 in Leesburg , Virginia , † October 6, 2005 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician from the state of Maryland .

Gore was born the daughter of lawyer and real estate investor H. Grady Gore. She was a member of the Republicans and made numerous political, social, and cultural causes merited. Between 1963 and 1969 she represented Montgomery County in the Maryland General Assembly , after serving in the State House of Representatives in 1966 she was the first female Republican Party member to be elected to the Maryland Senate.

After an unsuccessful candidacy for the US House of Representatives in 1966, she first applied for the office of governor of Maryland in 1974 , but only achieved 36.5% of the vote and was thus defeated by the Democrat Marvin Mandel . A second candidacy in 1978 was also unsuccessful.

In addition to her own political career, Louise Gore strongly supported Richard Nixon's presidential bid . After he took office, he returned the favor and appointed Gore as US ambassador to UNESCO in Paris. Louise Gore died of cancer at the age of 80. She was a cousin of Albert Gore Sr. , the former senator from Tennessee and father of Al Gore .
