Lourenço Lopes
Lourenço Lopes was governor of Portuguese Timor and Solor from 1705 and 1706.
Lopes was the brother-in-law of Domingos da Costa , who had led the Topasse as Capitão-mor since 1697 . The topasse held the real power in the Portuguese possessions in the region at that time . Two governors sent by the Viceroy to Goa had already been captured by the Topasse and sent back.
1702 António Coelho Guerreiro arrived as the new governor in Lifau . With the help of the highly respected Bishop Manuel de Santo António , Guerreiro was able to secure Lopes' support and carry out his office until 1705. For this Lopes received the rank of lieutenant general ( tenente-general ). When Guerreiro returned to Goa after his tenure , Lourenço Lopes was installed as the new governor.
