Manuel Ferreira de Almeida

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Manuel Ferreira de Almeida led the colonial administration of Portuguese Timor and Solor from 1706 to 1708 and again from 1714 to 1715 .

Almeida does not appear on the official list of governors of the colony. Presumably he is a Topasse and rival of the Capitão-Mor and leader of the Topasse, Domingos da Costa , who succeeded him after his death in 1715 in the suzerainty of the Portuguese possessions on the Lesser Sunda Islands .

According to another source, Manuel Ferreira de Almeida is said to have arrived in Timor as the official governor in 1706, but was rejected by the respected and influential Bishop Manuel de Santo António . According to this source, Almeida died shortly after his arrival.
